How to Create a Basic Daily Skincare Routine

When I ask many women of color what is your skincare routine, most of them say soap and water. Every time I hear that it makes me cringe!!!! Your skin deserves more than just soap and water. Every women of color should have a basic daily skincare routine.

In order to have healthy skin, you must invest in great products and be consistent with your skincare routine. If you don't know how to create a basic daily skincare routine, then I am here to help you achieve this in three to four easy steps.

For your routine, you need to use products for your skin type, skin texture, and any skin problems you may have. Your morning routine will be a bit different from your evening routine. Throughout the day you are exposed to the sun, so you will need to prep your skin in the morning in order to protect it from the sun's harmful rays.

What you will need:

1.  Facial Cleanser - If you have normal to dry skin then you will want to use cream-based cleanser and if you have normal to oily/combination skin it is best that you use a gel-based or foam-based cleanser.

2. Toner/Astringent - Toners are used to remove excess debris and oil. It is great for oily skin because it will get rid of the greasy look and feel to your face. Also, many toners contain botanicals that are healthy for the skin. You want to use a toner that does not contain alcohol. Alcohol can exacerbate acne and hyperpigmentation conditions.

3. Moisturizer - A moisturizer will help to keep your skin soft, smooth and supple. Even if you have oily skin you never want to forgo using a moisturizer. You can opt to use a moisturizer that does not contain oil. Those with dry skin can opt for moisturizers containing oil. My company has created a wonderful moisturizer, Nuekie Moisture Therapy Creme. It retain moisture without the greasy feel and look. Find out more about the product here.

4. Sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or 30 -  It protects your skin from the harmful rays of the sun that are responsible for dark marks, pre-mature aging and even skin cancer.

Morning Routine
Step 1: Cleanse your skin with a facial cleanser.

Step 2: Take a clean cotton ball or pad and pour a little bit of your toner onto it. Apply the toner with gently to your face. You will find brown/black colored debris on the cotton ball or pad. Don't worry!

Step 3: Take a bit of your moisturizer gently rub it in your face in upward circular motion. Don't forget to moisturize your neck, too!!! The Nuekie Moisture Therapy Creme works well with all skin types - you can purchase it at this link here.

Step 4: Apply a sunscreen 5 minutes after applying your facial moisturizer. Take a quarter size and gently rub into your face in upward circular motion.

  1. This is a great comprehensive post of good skin care tips. You are right, skin care is an investment that most anyone should make, and the results are cumulative. Good job! I do similar skin care analyses, with a lot of product trials and recommendations. I need to learn more about ethnic skin care, what an important niche.
